Arroooo! Went to Woburn safari park this afternoon to a craft fair, and we got to see all the animals. There were lots of lovely Lupin-wolfies. I think wolves are my favourite animals, apart from kitty kats, and it was a real thrill to see them loping about. A couple were even chasing each other. I wish I could've heard them sing; it must be magical to be able to hear wolf-song. To paraphrase Dracula , who quite rightly said, (to be read in Transylvanian accent) "Ah, the children of the night. What sweet music they make." Whenever I imagine Lupin-wolf, it's always a real wolf, as opposed to the crappy one they had in the film.

Also saw tigers, which were beautiful too, and rather frisky, and the lions, which were all clustered together by the exit, where their shelter was. one of the lionesses was rolling on her back just like a real kitty. But I wouldn't have fancied rubbing her tummy. I like my arms where they are!

The craft fair itself was a ltitle disappointing, but I managed to get my favourite Sicilian olive oil, and my absolute favourite soap (patchouli and rose-scented and totally luxurious). So it was worth going.

Off to have some food, as the Food Tent didn't live up to expectations!

Ah, wolves! <3 I wish I could have seen them!

My brother never could understand why I wasn't thrilled to pieces when he proudly reported while visiting his wife's family in New Mexico, that they had an actual _wolf_ penned up in the backyard. Apparrently they found it as a cub, and kept it instead of at least finding some kind of animal preserve to take it. He sent me a picture of the wolf pacing behind the mesh of its cage, and it just about broke my heart. I'm hardly someone who is against keeping animals in captive environments (such as zoos) as a rule since they are generally better cared for, but there is just something about wolves that are meant to be wild, and free, and running beneath the moon at night.

Hi sweetie, I hope you are very well :-) I'm not around on LJ much these days due to work and stuff, so it's good to hear from you. Hope your work is going well.

Yes, it is cruel to keep a wolf captive like that when it should be running around in a pack. Fortunately the wolves of Woburn (that has quite a nice ring to it, I think) have plenty of room to act relatively naturally. Although, of course, they get fed instead of having to hunt. As far as I know it's a proper pack, with an alpha male and female. Not sure about its breeding record, but I know that many safari parks have good results and produce many wolflets.

I watched a programme on Longleat Safari Park not long ago specially because it featured the wolves, and they filmed at night. The wolf-keeper can actually reproduce wolf-song, and he called them using it. The wolves responded, presumably thinking he was a memeber of a rival pack, and he recorded the wolf-song. It was electifying, and I felt really envious of the presenter who got to be there

Oh, me too! I hated the one they had in the film. It was the only part of the film that I didn't like. In my mind, Lupin-wolf is always, always, always a real wolf, except maybe a little bit larger than average.

Yeah, a bit larger than average, with maybe more intelligence in the eyes, although I always think that wolves do have a certain look about them that indicates that they know more than we think they do. But maybe that's just me putting my own imagination out there!
